When I say “the only guide,” I honestly mean it…

When preparing to write this guide, I read everything and anything that exists out there.

Gotta tell you…it’s slim pickings.

Everything I’ve seen is commonplace and doesn’t specifically focus on height.

This page does exactly that.

What I mean by “right airbed for you”

Being “right for you” means it won’t be a waste of money and have you (or your guests) waking up on the floor.

We’ll look each and every aspect of choosing a good tall air mattress based on data and experience.

 I know everything about these beds…

• If they’re made in the USA or Europe in a small family business, I know the families making them.
• If they’re made in China, I know the factories and the little towns where the factories are. There’s a good chance I know the line managers, too.

I know…I’m bragging…if you call air mattress knowledge bragging (nerd alert!).

But hear me out…

This is really what I’m saying –  I can tell you about the underbelly of the industry.

• I can tell you which of these will likely lose air and leave you sleeping on the floor.
• I know which of these are overpriced and which over-deliver for the money.

Simply put – I’ll help you choose a tall air mattress that ticks all the other boxes too.

Why is that important?

Because if you go by height alone, the chances of choosing right are low…I know a few tall airbeds that leak like a sieve and they come from reputable companies.

Luckily, I know the other side of that medal  – air mattresses that are just as tall, but good.

Some very good, some great. Some way cheaper, too.

Anyway, I’m getting carried away, let’s get to the beds that made the cut.

What Was Updated for 2025

In this 2025 update, we’ve refined our approach to ranking the air mattresses. Several key changes were made to ensure our guide remains the most accurate and helpful resource available.

This year, we expanded our testing pool from 60 to 80 airbeds, incorporating newly released models and comparing them against our previous top picks. Testing methods were enhanced with a stronger focus on long-term durability, height retention after extended use, and noise levels during inflation.

Additionally, weight distribution metrics were improved to better simulate real-world sleeping conditions.

We also adjusted scoring weights for criteria like comfort and air retention, based on reader feedback from last year. For transparency, we’ve updated our visuals and data tables to include two new proprietary metrics: the Height Retention Index (HRI) and Stability Coefficient (SC).

Lastly, user reviews and direct feedback from manufacturers were incorporated to provide a well-rounded evaluation of each product.

Tallest air mattress – our top overall pick for home and camping – Ivation EZ Deflate Defender

The graph below tells a story – one of significantly less air per inch of height – 150-250% less.

That translates to less pressure exerted onto the walls and lower chances of leaks developing over time. That’s not the full story, but it makes all the difference.

 Low HAV also means less wobble

It also means less wobble than the classic models. This wobble is a result of the oversized chambers.

Now, all this wouldn’t mean much if Ivation didn’t get the basics right with this one – the vinyl, seams, and the pump.

I’m stressing that because this is not the only EZ bed out there – in my time in the industry, I’ve seen a dozen come and go.

In the last 5 years, this is the bed that consistently scored high in most categories we test and, and all of the crucial ones.

How it compares to similar EZ designs

It’s higher and rated better in most categories

By “similar bed” I mean the EZ designs with the frame. There are a few that come to mind and they’re inferior to Ivation in one of two ways – they’re either not as high or they’re rated lower in other categories, like air retention or comfort.

How it compares to the classic designs

Comparing Ivation EZ to other tall airbeds of classic designs is an apple-to-orange comparison in many ways.

For one, there’s the superior pump, which is also one of the two main reasons for the higher price tag (the other one being the frame).

Sure, you could go broader and compare it to some of the “never-flat” models that are built around a similar pump, but all of those are much lower – typically 18-20 inches high.

There’s one extra-tall air mattress that’s as high (which we’ll talk about in a hot minute), but it doesn’t really compare to Ivation in air retention and incidence of air leaks, especially in Queen size.

#2 – BeyondHOME Odorless – a tall air mattress with an extra-high weight limit

This is the highest air mattress I know that also has a weight capacity of over 700 lbs.

And that goes for available heights – 15, 18, and 22 inches.

What to expect from the material

Firstly, TPU combined with polyester feels less “plasticky” and more like a textile than your average flocked vinyl.

Secondly, it’s not as hefty, which means that it packs deceptively small for the extra height.

To be specific – you’ll probably be taken aback when this thing arrives.

A double-high Queen air mattress might appear as a Twin when packed down, and a twin might look like a Twin.

Not as big of a deal as they make it out

Personally, I think they make way bigger of a deal from the size than it is.

It is a benefit of sorts, but only significant if you’re sleeping on it daily and packing it away in a small space.

In all other scenarios, it’s not a big deal.

What is a big deal

The bigger deal here is the TPU.

If you’re a health-conscious person, you’ll like the fact that TPU does not off-gas nearly as much as vinyl.

This means two things:

1. You can start using it right away, with little to no airing out
2. It will smell less – the smaller the room you’re putting it in, the bigger the deal this is

Now, is it really “odorless”?

Not really.

I noticed a bit of a smell out of the box, just not nearly as much as with 95% of inflatable beds that I tested over the years.

The remaining 5% are reserved for low-profile camping beds, which we are not interested in today.

Highest air mattress among the classics – Brookstone Innovations Twin-size

I expected to see this bed at #1

When I was setting up to write this and gathering data, I absolutely expected to see this Brookstone topping the list of the highest air mattresses.

I like the pump, I like the contours of the top, I like the muted-down colors that stand out in a sea of blues and dull grays (yes, this one’s still gray but stylish).

I like everything about this bed.

That was all based on data I was aware of prior to 2022.

I have no explanation for this, but, in Queen size, this bed did not perform as expected in our tests and statistical analysis.

In full size, it did OK but, again, not as expected.

It did great in Twin-size, which is a bit counter-intuitive.

 Why counter-intuitive?

Because if we weren’t talking about the Brookstone, I’d say that 24 inches is too high for a Twin.

What might’ve happened with the Queen size

I’m looking at the dates now and I can only assume that it’s one bad batch that’s probably on its way out as I’m writing this (in 2025).

This means I expect the good ol’ bed I know to be back…and soon.

Tallest air mattress for those on a budget – Intex Comfort Elevated

Top value in the height category

If I was on a tight budget and looking for an airbed for occasional use, I’d get this Intex.

It’s not great, but it is very good for the money.

I’d even say it’s the top value among 22+ inches high air mattresses.

That’s what earned this bed a place on our list of best air mattresses with a built-in pump – yes, overall.

So, that tells a story.

A story of curbed expectations and an airbed that overlivers for 9 out of 10 people….that’s my guesstimate.

What do I mean by “curbed expectations?”

• Don’t expect a fast pump.
• Don’t expect quiet inflation.
• Don’t expect a seamless warranty claim if your bed develops a leak.

Active Era is one of my favorites of the newer brands, and this is their staple model.

They targeted the medium price range and did a good job at hitting all the key milestones.

The pump is not as fast as that on Brookstone, but this bed is about half the price.

So, there’s that…

It received middle-to-high ratings across all categories – both related to height and the general categories.

What went into creating this guide

Top 5 out of 60…what does that mean?

It means I’ve spent the last few weeks comparing existing data and finding new information to choose the 5 beds presented here. These are all beds I’ve personally used and tested at some point over the years, so it’s first-insights.

It also means the airbeds in our top 5 are not only tall or large, they’re also good in other crucial aspects.

I mentioned them above…

Here’s what to expect exactly

I’ll cover a range of categories – tall (tallest, highest), double-high/raised in different sizes (Twin, Full, Queen).

The industry terminology varies so you might see these terms used to describe these beds, too: raised, elevated, large, high-rise, extra-high.

I know it’s all confusing…I’ll help with that.

But here’s the thing – 7-8 minutes here can save you massive time, money and headache down the road.

Since then, I’ve spent my days researching, testing and writing on all things air mattresses.

 Let’s into the nitty-gritty of two things:

1. What height to aim for if you’re looking for the tallest air mattress
2. What quality aspects are crucial beyond the height
3. What I looked at to find my 5 picks

This section is an immensely useful read if you want to understand what you’re spending your money on.

I’d say that any blow-up bed that’s 18 inches or is tall. I’m just looking at my database that contains over 400 airbeds we analyzed so far.

Any bed in that height bracket (18+ inches) belongs to the top 3% of tallest air mattresses.

Height of airbeds for home use

About 70% of the beds for home use are either 16 or 18 inches tall – that’s by far the most sought after height and it’s the category that manufacturers pay the most attention to.

Why is that important?

It’s crucial – the supply-demand defines how well the beds will be controlled before they leave the line.

Now, the tall air beds you see among my top picks are a bit different.

Let me use plain language here – some airbeds are just not big enough to be extra-tall and still maintain stability.

In the section below, I’ll get ultra specific on why that is.

Twin tall air mattress – a balance problem

If you have an extra all air mattress, the minimum size that’s still stable is full. Below that, the bed will wobble, no matter how good the chambers are.

A 30-inch high inflatable just won’t work unless it’s only an inflatable core wrapped it foam and textile.

Bottom line – if you’re getting a twin, go for a max of 16 inches for stability. You can get away a tall twin air mattress (18+ inches) if it’s going against a minimum of one wall or a corner.

Tall queen air mattress – the sweet spot

In queen size, you get more freedom to choose without compromising stability. theoretically, you could go up to 30-inches tall and an inflatable bed with standalone chambers will still go strong.

I could go into details and the physics of it, but that would bore you to death.

I’ll stay on the actionable side.

My advice when choosing a tall queen air mattress – shoot for the 18-24 inches range of height. It’s where the top value is.

In the table and graph below, you can see our proprietary metric – the SH coefficient. It’s the ratio between the top surfaces and the highest version of the air mattress.

As it’s to be expected, the HS index is pretty close across the board.

For simplicity reasons, we did not include tables and graphs for the smaller versions because it’s almost a rule that a high HS in, say, Queen size, also means a high HS in other sizes.

How to interpret the surface-per-height index

The higher the SH index, get more usable surface per inch of height. If you get below 18 inches, the HS would grow but would be for little use.

We are interested in airbeds that are higher than 20 inches.

In that range, a high SH index is an indication of a comfy, stable bed that sleeps well.

This is the section that ties back with the stuff I promised to cover at the very beginning.

It’s about choosing good value for money even if you don’t go for any of the recommendations we listed.

If you take five minutes to read this, you will be in the top one percent in terms of understanding and choosing a good blowup bed in different sizes and height categories.

Air retention of a tall air mattress

(aka. how not be wake up on the floor)

There is a good reason that most inflatables are up to 18 inches tall, even the high-rises. The air circulation within the chambers is one of them.

The higher the air mattress the more room for air to circulate and more room for the creation of extra “dense” pockets of air.

Those pockets carry pressure and can even pop a seam.

What it means for choosing an extra-high air mattress

It means that if you go with a high-rise airbed that’s 20 inches or taller (maybe even 18), you’ll need to make sure you’re choosing one that meets the following criteria:

• It’s comprised of a high number of vertical chambers – the more of these the lesser the chance of high-pressure areas
• The seams are strong and heat-sealed
• The vinyl is at least 0.4 mm thick

Choosing a tall airbed that ticks these boxes will minimize the chance of air leaks, and that’s a number one problem people experience with new inflatables.

Important: All our picks meet and exceed the quality criteria above.

Intuitively, you’d say that the higher the air mattress, the more comfortable it will be. That’s not necessarily the case, and it’s usually because the model is too soft.

Some of the highest air mattresses did not make it to the list of our top picks because of problems with comfort.

And it’s all related to the previous point of air retention.

What it means for choosing a double-high air mattress

If you go with an extra-tall airbed, you’re better off with one that features a never-flat pump.

That’s because being too firm isn’t going to be a problem but becoming too soft as the night goes on can be a problem.

A never-flat pump that adds air when it “senses” a pressure drop solves that problem.

This one is important because there are precise limits I have set based one the testing results I’ve seen over the years.

In our testing and data analysis, we’ve seen no direct correlation between height and price.

It is true that our top pick among the high-rise air mattresses is also the most expensive on the list, but that’s because of the frame, not the height on its own.

What we’ve described above, the leaks that develop along the seams (whether external or seams of the inner chambers) are pretty much the worse thing that can happen.

If there’s a simple puncture, you still might have a chance to patch it, but a leak at a seam will render the airbed useless.

Why do the seam leaks develop?

Now, these leaks at the seams happen as a result of prolonged sustained stress of the material stretching.

The thicker the vinyl, the more sturdy and stable the bed. There’s no stress on the seams and the chances of the leaks developing are much lower.

There’s no two ways about it – the thickness of the material makes the Coil puncture-proof (as much as an airbed can be). Paired with the capacity, this also paints a picture of a solid air mattress for heavy people.

Air mattress for a heavy person – high capacity, low leak percentage

Being heavy-duty is not the same thing as high capacity – some of the most durable picks are actually listed at lower capacities (500 lbs).

The Coil lives at the intersection between high durability ratings and being a good option as an airbed for a heavy person (listed at 600 lbs capacity).

Very little change over the years

For a long time, this Fox has seen very little change in the ratings, especially the “durability & longevity” category.

Why?

Because what makes it so tough is durable is not a fancy new beam design or layered vinyl, it is the simple fact that it is THE ONLY airbed in industry made from material of this thickness.

It’s thicker but a peg less durable in the full picture than beds like the rugged Cloud Nine.

0.4 mm vs. 0.6 mm vinyl

The industry standard for the material used is 0.4 mm thick vinyl.

The PVC used to make this Fox is almost 50 % thicker (43% to be precise), which is only rivaled by the Koil and the SoundAsleep.

Waterproof vinyl

As opposed to Fox, the material used for this heavy-duty air mattress is not thicker, it’s better and one of the few that’s waterproof but still flocked.

What they say  vs. our tests

They advertise is as 48% more resistant and 28% stronger, yet 30% lighter. In the context of airbeds, terms like “stronger” are relative and I’ll assume they mean higher capacity.

Based on everything we’ve seen in our tests, the claims of robustness are fairly accurate. They use most of the same stuff as in their units intended for trucks, which demands next-level toughness.

One of a kind – true 1,000-lb capacity

Here the impoortant part – this Pittman is THE ONLY airbed with a 1,000 lbs capacity taht we can reccomend. We know of 3 in total but, to be honest, the 1000-lb capacity is usualy a gimmick.

Here’s – it’s as real as it gets. Granted, we did see about 2.5% of leak reports, which means there’s a 1 in 40 chance of it happening to you.

We can live with those odds – knowing what we know about the industry and the stats.

Finally, it’s surprisingly cheap for a half-ton capacity. If you asked me to guess the price, I’d guess double than what it actually costs.

Three main factors:

The Cloud 9 doesn’t have the problem of the material pulling on the seams as the bed gets “wobblier” from the air loss because it comes with a “smart pump”.

This pump design is probably the biggest improvement in the last 10 years

Although this is a young product (hit the market towards the end of 2016), the “smart” pump that comes with it is not new technology.

We’ve already seen it in some beds coming from Serta and Insta. Serta calls their pump “NeverFlat”, but the two pumps work in pretty much the same way.

The “smart” pump is a small secondary pump. It’s not used to inflate the bed but to add air if the pressure inside the chambers drops.

Why is this a big deal for durability?

Simple – because if the inner pressure doesn’t fluctuate, there is less pulling forces on the seams and, as we said a few times before, this is one of the main cause of mysterious air leaks that happens with most lower quality models.

Bottom line – the Cloud 9 will be the choice of people who make no compromises and want to the bring the risk of air leaks to an absolute minimum.

Blow up beds that feature a beam inner deign (or even those with a lower number of coils) the weight is not distributed evenly.

The result is that unbalanced sleep surface you’ll likely see with most inflatables.

The coils keep it stable

The stability results in less micro currents developing inside.

The primary benefit of that is the comfort.

The secondary is a more durable bed more resistant to punctures & leaks. As the air inside moves less and the sleep surface is more stable, the all-important seams suffer less pulling and stretching.

As we mentioned, for the statistical modeling process, we collect data from all corners of the internet – this is THE ONLY product we collected 1000+ reviews for- a whooping 14,000+.

Lightspeed Outdoors TPU weighs only 6.48 lbs

Three times lighter than the Fox, this bed packs down to 18 x 8 “. In those terms, it’s the only heavy-duty air mattress on the list that’s a viable option for backpacking and smaller slanted tends.

How can it be so durable at that weight?

This is the only bed on the list that’s not made of vinyl. It’s made of a material called TPU.

What makes it so durable is the fact that TPU doesn’t stretch. TPU feels more like fabric than plastic (think military backpacks).

Because TPU not as malleable as vinyl. It’s harder to make a blow up bed out of it that will be sturdy enough at the seams.

In fact, out of the 100+ air beds we tested, we feel like this is THE ONLY TPU air bed that’s worth the money.

Lightspeed somehow managed to find the sweet spot between the toughness of the seams and the sturdiness of the material.

Bottom line – if you are looking for a heavy-duty, durable camping piece, the search probably ends with this 2-person model.

The rest of this guide is dedicated to a few other brands and models that didn’t make it to the top 5 most durable air mattresses but we feel they deserve a mention.

We’ll not only go over the few honorary mentions but a few technologies used by other brands specifically aimed at making a tougher, more puncture-proof air bed.

If this is not your first time buying a blow up mattress, you might be surprised to see Intex mentioned in the context of durabie, high weight capacity or puncture-proof airbeds.

It is one of the best-known companies, but they have a bit of history and reputation for making products that are on the cheaper end of the spectrum, which usually meant they could not compete with the other brands in terms of durability.

That changed with the arrival of their Dura Beam Fiber Tech Series.

What’s makes the models in the series both more comfortable and durable than other Intex models are the thousands of fibers connecting the top to the bottom surface.

The Fiber Tech fibers changed Intex as a brand forever. It’s the best thing to “happen” to them in decades.

The difference is that Fiber tech fibers do not stretch. Yes, we did mention the stretching a few times before and there’s no way around it.

Intex advertise their Durabeam Series as being “Designed for Comfort, engineered for durability” and rightfully so. The high weight capacity Durabeam Series models are not even in the same category as the rest of the Intex portfolio.

Our top pick from the series is the Intex Comfort Plush Durabeam Elevated.

Why it didn’t make it to the TOP 5 most durable

Our durability ratings are based on range of factors and, in this months update, the Durabeam Series was very close to breaking into the top heavy-duty models. If you mix in the price point – it’s probably fair to say that (as far as value for money goes) this high weight capacity model is the best air mattress for a heavy person.

Yet, it’s not there yet and this is based on the ratings of our field testers.

This is our opinion why it’s not among the TOP 5

There’s no doubt that Fiber Tech is a great addition to the Intex portfolio. Having said that, what we’ve seen in practice that, in terms of durability & longevity, coils tend to be the superior choice compared to beams.

The most probable reason is that coils are better at restricting air movement. The comfort is there, but the ratings we’ve seen from our testers over the past year placed the Fiber tech models just under the bar.

In the end, it’s a numbers game, and if the price is an important factor for you, Intex Durabeam might still be your best bet.

Another big player that was challenged by the arrival on the younger companies and models is Coleman. We pay close attention to any news from industry giants like Coleman because, in a fast-moving market, the models that were unmatched in durability once are getting a run for their money by the new arrivals.

In these circumstances, anyone who doesn’t inovate is doomed and for the potential buyer, it’s a good thing…competition always is.

The endurance & puncture-resistance of their models were (and still are) two of their stronger suits. The fact that that Coleman SuportRest is the official airbed of the National Park Foundation speaks for itself.

Coleman does have a long-standing relationship with the NPF and that fact alone could not be the reason to treat their models any differently in our “stamina” testing and rating process.

Still, both our in-house tests and field testing of our fellow camper testers earned the Coleman SuportRest a place in the top 3 most durable camping airbeds. Both models are of high-weight capacity and have solid ratings in terms of being puncture-proof. This makes them one of the best picks for a heavy person.

What makes it tougher?

Coleman’s endurance “game” is strong and it relies on 3 technologies:

• The Comfort Strong Coil Construction
• The Support Lock inner chamber reinforcements
• The role of the Comfort Strong Coil system

Comfort Coils

This is basically a name Coleman use to describe why the construction of some of their models is superior in terms of being puncture-resistant (they’d say puncture-proof but that’s not a term we use often). Opposed to a beam inner design, the coils are there to provide a flatter sleeping surface and better weight distribution. Again, in terms of endurance, the role of the system is to lower the impact of the weight on the material. Simply put, it’s the coils that “deal” with the weight and not the material. This makes it more puncture-resistant.

What the Support Lock System does to make Coleman airbeds more heavy-duty

Sinking to the middle is common in lower-quality and less durable inflatables. It happens as a result of a few factors:

• Inferior support of the inner chambers
• Sides of the bed being less sturdy and more likely to give in

The Support lock system works on the latter.

The added pieces of support materials in the system connect the sides of the bed to the tom and bottom surface. This increases the endurance of the airbed by minimizing the sinking, and in turn, the brunt that pulls on the material.

Who might go with Coleman?

Our two picks among the Coleman models that feature both features mentioned above is the Coleman SuportRest & DuraRest.

Two more heavy-duty air mattresses for camping, the SuportRest might be the choice of campers with enough room in their tents to fit the tall sides, while the DuraRest will appeal more to those who prefer a more classic low-rise.

Different brands have different names for these materials (sure-grip, non-slip, etc.) but most of the time, it’s all based on the rubberized bottoms.

The term is pretty self-explanatory and has everything to do with spine alignment and sinking of the hip and shoulder area.

I’ve searched far and wide while gathering data for this and I’ve seen no good information on the topic of air mattress on legs and with rolling case.

So, I’ve decided to create it.

Choosing a good air bed with frame – the three problems

Air mattress with a frame is easily the most sensitive category to choose in.

For three reasons:

1. Pairing a blow-up mattress with a frame is tricky – I’ve seen dozens of these come and go over the years. I’ve also seen a few stay – the few that actually get it right (we’ll get to those in a moment).
2. There’s no significant demand – this means there’s less information from other owners on how good the beds are.
3. The online sources are lacking – while writing this, I looked over everything that exists on the topic. It’s all superficial and pretty much useless for the potential buyer.

With the newly collected info, we have even more data to analyze the influence of specific quality aspects to this type of inflatables.

Blow up mattress with frame – looking for the perfect pump

Based on the pool of data we gathered for this guide, we would say that owners of EZ beds with a Never Flat pump would never go back to anything else.

If you just think about it – one of the main complaints people used to have about airbeds are the air leaks.

The “smart” pump (or the Serta in Insta call it, NeverFlat) solved the problem. The technology is probably the biggest milestone in the industry in the past few decades.

After all, it’s this technology that allowed the inflatable beds to become a mainstream sleep solution among temporary beds. What’s it all about?

A smart pump is designed to address two things:

1. Pinholes or seam leaks that are big enough for your bed to lose air and you to wake up on a half-deflated mattres
2. Stretching of the vinyl – it’s the nature of vinyl as a material to stretch. The first issue here is the initial stretching (which you’ll see with most airbeds). This one is not the big deal because it only takes a few nights for the vinyl to fully set.

It might become a problem if you’re using your bed in environment with significant temperature fluctuations.

For example, you might inflate the bed in a guest room before you even turn on the heat. In this case, once temperature changes (grows) it will feel like the airbed has lost air. Most of the time, this can be attributed to the vinyl stretching at higher temperatures.

Bottom line – mounting an air mattress on a frame is tricky.

It allows you to set up the bed and not give it in more thought because, if it does leak, the secondary pump will silently kick in and top it off back to your firmness preset.

That’s why we mentioned that the Serta and Insta EZ are in the category of their own and, in our opinion, are worth every extra dollar.

Appearance of the air mattress on legs

If you’re getting an airbed for, say, a guest room, one of the thoughts that might be on your mind is the appearance.

It’s another quality aspect where the EZs cannot be compared to any other inflatable – they look like they belong on the cover of an interior design magazine.

Set up

If you take a look at the pictures, your first impression might be that the frame is difficult to set up.

That’s not the case with any of the products we listed, especially the EZ beds.

All the three EZs are designed to automatically set up. This means that you don’t have to do anything; you just take the airbed out of the carry case, plug it in and watch it unfold.

As it inflates, the legs and frame of the air mattress will expands and automatically lock into place.

It’s not just easy, it’s impressive to watch. The same goes for setting them down. In the initial guide, this was just a bit more than an opinion we shared. For this update, we have more impression and user opinion to base statemennts like this on. They only confirmed our initial impressions.

Portability

A typical air mattress comes with a plastic carry bag and the quality of those is nothing to write home about.

The air mattresses with a frame come with a carry case that’s a whole different story.

When packed, it looks like a medium-sized wheeled suitcase.

Versatility

We’re only mentioning versatility so that we can address that of the Coleman Cot.

If your needs dictate so, it can be used to sleep 4 adults…maybe even a kid or two.

If this is your scenario, the kids would have to go on the airbed. The capacity of 600 pounds listed for the Coleman cot also applies to the inflatable itself.

The cot is sturdy and durable but we don’t see it is an option for sleeping more than two adults because there is a metal bar that separates the two halves of the bed.

The frames of the air mattresses

We didn’t see any significant differences in the quality of the steel used for the frames or legs of the 4 air mattresses we mentioned.

One difference is the set up – Coleman is the only bed here that doesn’t automatically set up, which is only natural because you do need access to power for that.

What we see as the more important quality aspect here is that all the frames lock into place and don’t feel unstable or clunky (and we have seen that with some of the competing products).

We believe that we haven’t addressed the main quality aspects of an air mattress with frame and legs so let us move on to the frequently asked questions about the specific models.

Twin air mattress with frame – an elusive beast

The twin air mattress with frame is rare but we’ve been seing questions about it so we took the time to dig deeper and find a few beds in the size the do the job Out of the top picks, the Ivation and Coleman blow up mattresses with a legs and case also come in Twin size.

We feel that’s enough because it covers both home and outdoor use.

Air mattress on frame – FAQs

Is there an option to separate the mattress from the frame?

This is one of the more commonly asked questions about the EZ beds. Unlike the Coleman cot, the mattress of all the EZs (Insta, Serta and Ivation) is fixed and cannot be detached from the frame.

This also answers the question about pairing it with a futon. To be honest, we’re not sure why , but we did receive a few questions about the possibility of using the beds with one half supported by the frame and legs and the other half rested on a futon platform.

The height of the mattress

We measured the height of the inflatable parts only and it’s approximately 9 ½ inches, while the overall height when fully inflated is 22 inches.

It’s true to size?

This is a quick question not only because some of the air mattresses we looked at were simply smaller than the list dimensions but, more importantly, it’s about being true to size when it comes to the sleeping surface itself.

Let us explain that one – because the design of any inflatable bed has more less prominent arches on the sides, some companies opt in to list the dimensions of the further-most points of the bed.

What this means for the buyer is that the actual slip sleeping surface is slightly smaller.

That’s not the case with any of the beds we listed and the dimensions and the fact sheet are the actual dimensions of the sleeping surface.

Terms of the warranty

This Insta is covered by a standard one year manufacturer’s warranty on defects in craftsmanship like leaking seams.

Is it easy to move around?

The whole set (air mattress, frame and legs) packs down to the size of a medium suitcase and weighs approximately 55 LBS. The wheels on the carry case make it easy to move around.

What kind of sheets to use?

Since we mentioned that it is true to size and the only available in Queen, we would recommend fitted queen-size sheets. The depth of the pockets should be a bit higher than the 9 ½ inches of the mattress to compensate for the arched sides.

Don’t make the mistake of choosing sheets that are not deep enough.

Other air mattresses do have indentations (ribs) on the sides for the elastic band to grip. If you look at the pictures, these mattresses are one-piece, so “shallow” pockets won’t have anything to grip.

Can I use it for everyday sleep?

None of these are designed to be the main bed and, typically, the company will stress so in the instructions manual. For everyday use, you would need something sturdier – you can see our guide on the most durable and heavy-duty air mattresses here.

Power

The plug-in is a standard 120 V AC and to use it with any other power source (like a car outlet), your only option will be a converter.

If you do decide to use a converter, do make sure that the power (wattage) of the converter/inverter is high enough. Otherwise, you’re risking damaging or even “burning” the pump.

If you’re asking us, we would not invest in this kind of a high-end product and then expose it to the elements.

That’s one of the reasons that we included the Coleman cot in this list – the design is similar & the Coleman is meant to be used on the outdoors. It’s also significantly cheaper.

Cord length and placement

We measured the cord of this Insta to be about 5 feet, so make sure to they take that into account when thinking about where you’d place the bed.

With classic airbeds this might not be a big factor, but with EZs it’s something to think about, for two reasons.

One – it is heavier and harder to move once set up, so we would advise setting the bed up in the room where it will be for the night.

Two – to make full use of the smart pump, you need to keep it plugged in through the night.

Getting an elegant eye candy mattress and then using extension cords all around it kind of beats the purpose.

The noise of the secondary pump

The secondary pump “engages” only occasionally and when it does, it’s practically silent.

If you are awake when it does its job you might hear low humming, but unless you’re an extremely light sleeper, we can’t see the sound waking you up.

The bottom end of the legs

One of the questions that kept popping up is whether the legs can damage hardwood floors.

The sturdy plastic used for the finish of the legs has no sharp edges and we’ve seen no complaints from owners about their floor being scratched.

That goes even for the users who burdened the mattress to its maximum capacity (500 LBS).

Edge support and weight distribution

Another common issue with the classic inflatable is the edges not being sturdy enough to sit on.

The combination of the sturdy frame and the multilayered pineal with chambered inner design is what makes an EZ bed different.

We measured the frame for the queen-size to be 64 inches long, 54 inches wide and approximately 11 ½ inches high.

This puts the combined height of the whole mattress at 22 inches.

Best practices when it comes to storing

To maximize the longevity of the plastic parts, we would advise storing it at room temperatures. Avoid attics or basements where temperatures and humidity fluctuate.

For example, synthetic canvas fabric might not be the best option.

Also, make sure that the surface is fixed and isn’t moving, you’ll find it difficult to roll the Kamp Rite if both the mattress and the surface underneath are sliding and moving all over the place.

For a Double size of the Kamp Rite , you’ll need two people following the steps outlined below at the same time.

Now that we have that covered, let’s get to the steps:

• Step one – open the valves on the back
• Step two – move to the opposite side of the mattress and grip the very ends firmly (the tightness of the first roll is crucial to the packing size you end up with)
• Step three – go one roll in the time and use your body weight to compress and squeeze the air out after each roll
• Step four – while firmly holding the roll, move it away from your body just slightly to get a better grip. Pull it back towards you and press it with your knees again.
• Step five – take brief pauses of about 2-3 seconds between each roll and squeeze as much of the air out as possible. These brief pauses will allow you to use her body weight to make it compact.
• Step six – as you go the roll will get thicker, so increase the pauses you take between each step to allow more time for the air to escape.
