If it’s falling apart & separating, it does not sound like dust mites or any bugs. The same thing happened to me after storing it folded up high on a closet shelf for about 17 years. The fibers just start to disintegrate after not moving in the air. It’s best to wash it every few months & keep it moving around & circulated.

There’s a good chance that mites might be behind what you’re describing. I don’t think there’s much you can do in terms of repairing the blanket, just make sure you find the little critters before they do more damage.

Frankly Gary, I don’t know and I couldn’t find the answer anywhere online…I’m not sure of why that would happen, the only thing that comes to mind is bad storage (read: moisture) I’m responding ’cause I’m hoping you found a solution and would like to to us a favor and share it…we’d appreciate it.

To the best of our knowledge, they are. These are widely used in hotels so it only makes sense to make them as neutral as possible. But, I’ve just looked at each listing on Amazon and not all are listed as hypoallergenic – the Plush version (see the list at the top) is advertised as 100% hypoallergenic.
