Our Mission, Practices and the Team Behind It All
The mission
Our mission is to become the single most trusted source for sleep product reviews.
We take pride in the way we approach our research. Detail-oriented and unbiased, we feel they’re unique in the industry.
Two ingredients of a reliable quality assessment
There are two sides to our process: a solid in-house team of reviewers and researchers and third-party consultants we bring in when tackling a new category of products.
The result is a carefully crafted rating system for a range of sleep products.
We’re never complacent
It’s a changing industry and what was true a year ago might not be today. That’s why we never rest on our laurels and take special care to stay on top of things.
In practice, this means that we have a system of bi-monthly updates that adds new data to existing reviews. If the changes in ratings go over a defined threshold, it triggers a new “from-scratch” review.
This approach, allows us to separate the wheat from the chaff and only recommend products we truly believe in.
We buy the sleep products and do first-hand testing
Most importanly, whwne we do product reviews, we actually buy, use and test the products. Also, 99% of the time, we do not accept free products for the tests, but buy our own.
This ensures total independancy and objectivity.
The core team
We keep our in-house team small, which gives us the flexibilty to go out and hire expert writers and reviewers on per-topic bases.
Nenad Aleksic – Content Manager and Head Writer
Nenad is a self-professed sleep nerd and the founder of The Sleep Studies. His background is in engineering and statistics and ways in which it can be applied to the quality of sleep products.
In his words: “I was always a restless sleeper and needed some sort of a “hack” to get a good night’s sleep. As time went by, I realized that I was learning a lot trying to solve my own sleep problems and decided to put it all to good use. I gathered a few smart people around the idea and that’s how TheSleepStudies was born.”
Nenad is also in charge of communications and digital marketing.
Dr. Mel Dzadzis – Sleep expert, consultant, reviewer of wellness content
Mel makes sure that all the content we put out is clear and correct, especially if it’s wellness-elated.
It’s a mini-miracle we have someone like her onboard.
In her words: “I make sure that the reader understands what we’re saying. When you spend years writing about a narrow topic, it’s easy to start assuming someone things.”
Bob Ozment – Head of processes, reviewer, product tester
When it comes to the review methodology, Bob is probably the single most deserving person here. With the help of consultants, he designed most of the systems we have in place today.
He holds a masters degree Statistics, Actuarial & Data Sciences from the central Michigan University at Mount Pleasant.
He’s the guy that truly makes it possible for our product review methodoligy to stand out.
In his words: “You can see opinions all over the place. Without context, they don’t mean much and add little value. You have something meaningful only when you design a way to quantify it.”
Bob is a numbers guy. He works closely with our consultants and uses his background in statistics to design the processes.
He’s a stomach sleeper, but nobody’s perfect.
Andy is the guy behind our video presentations.
He’s been with us since the beggining and he’s an important part of the operation.
It turns out that a lot of people prefer video to reading the reviews, especially when someone like Andy is presenting.
